I have wanted to create a top that would introduce another medium to the craft of knitting for some time now. After several trials, I finally hit on something~ or at least I think so…. 

The avant garde and slightly oversized, pure fun and a bit out of the ordinary Hardware top was born.

Easy to knit and in one piece flat. Even a beginner can handle it. The application of the grosgrain ribbon and D-rings called “hardware” can be done by hand or sewing machine and is pretty straight forward.

This top certainly has the WOW factor, doesn't it?

No worries, there is a photo tutorial to guide you through it. It's simple heavy duty grosgrain ribbon and belt buckle D-rings. You can hand sew with a darning needle or use your sewing machine for the application of the ribbon. 

For bust sizes ranging from 36” up to 52” to be worn with 10”-14” of positive ease.

Yarn: 
As shown in the photos: I love the texture created~ 
Darlon a sport weight yarn, 309 yards 282 m per skein. 
2/2/3 skeins used. 
Bambon, a DK weight 154 yards/140 m each, 4/4/5 skeins used. 
Yarns are held together throughout. 
Knit kits are available including the free pattern

Alternatively: 
Use 500/580/650 yards or 458/530/595 m of a chunky yarn.

Notions: 
US size 13 (9 mm) circular needle, 36” (90 cm). 
Heavy duty grosgrain ribbon about 1“ wide (2.5 cm) and 2.5/2.75/3 yards (2.30/2.50/2.75 m) in length. 
8/8/10 D-rings 1”(2.5 cm) in size
 
Darning needle
 
Matching thread
 
Straight pins to hold your grosgrain ribbon in place when sewing 
Sewing machine optional

Gauge: 
9 sts and 14 rows in 4” knitted in stockinette stitch, blocked.

Techniques: 
Knitting in Stockinette stitch, garter stitch, knitted cast on, attaching/sewing on the hardware.
